The size was 900 x 750 x 500 mm, four drawers. She just gave me the size and told me where she was going to put it, so its details were left to me.

Visiting his new place, I saw no TV stand and apparently he needed something to hold on his flat-screen TV higher. So I offered to make one for reasonable price. I was that kind of mood this week. I finally finished a mock-up of a chair. It's also a piece for long-run test, so I used Domino for most of the joints. 

One thing I love about the city of Atsugi is the weather. You can enjoy sunshine in winter quite often and you don't have to turn on the lights in the early morning. But anymore from now on, someone makes snug fit tenons for me. Terrific.

  It's cutting speed is depend on how fast you push it against the workpiece.  Yet I can tell you it's way faster than usual mortiser. I can't afford the first two so I made saw horses.

I have used Afrormosia for chair and I really liked the wood just before shaping, I think Shedua will be my favorite when I have a thickness sander. I'd use Brazilian Rose if I'm allowed. Realistically I'd say to the question "something friendly to work, reasonable, and have nice colour".

So, I moved on to scraper.

First I tried a Japanese scraper plane, which is meant be used to fix plane bottom warp. It worked okay, made shavings. Not obsessively but more than other students do usually. To this day I've made two of 1/4 scale, one 1/2 scale, and one Full scale. There's a few reason to do this step. 1/4 is very easy and quick to build like a rough sketch, (It is a rough sketch size actually). 1/2 is still quick enough, easy to make changes and able to put detail in it. As the time hadn't been enough I didn't make the shape too complicated. The door and the sides are mildly round, the door pull is minimal.

I'm not contagious so far but have had some symptoms of cold. I've been very very cautious about my physical condition this year, like washing hands, gargling, taking vitamin C, etc..., though it seems impossible to avoid cold virus in a fully packed school.

 I was surprised that my computer clock was 1 hour delayed this morning. Oh year, people in this country move their clock hand back and forth. I might be able to go to school earlier tomorrow...?


天板にエッジを接着しているところです。板が平行になっていないので圧力を均等にエッジに加えるのにちょっとした工夫が必要です。ここでは曲線側に合板に溝を切った当て木を使っています。合板を使ったのはその辺に手ごろなスクラップが転がっていたから。

シカモアのベニヤをコアに接着する準備をしているところです。間違えてくっつけないようわかりやすい印をつけます。



 もしバキュームプレス派とメカプレス派がいるとしたら、自分はメカプレス派です。

 

最後に縁取りを接着して終わり！凸曲線の縁取り接着は意外と難しいものです。

機械を使える時間は限りがあるので、作業計画がずさんだとどんどん予定が遅れていきます。 授業で使用制限されるときもあれば、使いたい機械が順番待ちのときもあり（しょっちゅう）、おそらく一日４時間ほどしか機械作業していない気がします。もったいない。プロセス全体を見通して、その週終わらせる仕事、その日終わらせる仕事を割り振る能力が求められます。

今回綺麗な縮み杢（波模様）が入ったヨーロピアンシカモアが手に入ったのでそれを天板にすることにしました。シカモアのトーンに似合ってかつ安価、強度がある材としてハードメイプルを選びました。カナダでは良質のハードメイプルが建材としてよく出回っています。日本だとあまり目にかからないでしょうか。
このシカモアをソリッド（無垢）の天板に仕様と画策していましたが、厚さ２インチの材を半分に挽き割ったところ最大１／４インチほど反ってしまったので、今回は突き板で加工します。工数がどんどん増えていきます。

学校内で家具製作を行っています。１年目のCraftsman Program、２年目のResident Craftsman Programを修了して３年目に突入しています。居候ですね。

Yes, I'm using the school facility, where I’ve passed through their Craftsman &amp; Resident Craftsman Program. This is the 3rd year.
