Sometimes I want to stop thinking and just move hands. I was that kind of mood this week. I finally finished a mock-up of a chair. It's also a piece for long-run test, so I used Domino for most of the joints.
One thing I love about the city of Atsugi is the weather. You can enjoy sunshine in winter quite often and you don't have to turn on the lights in the early morning. It's really helpful when you check color with natural light.
Design of back leg is always troublesome. Not only its shape but position and angle of the joints, which defining type of chair.
I think front leg joint for apron is fine with single tenon. Most production type chairs use two dowels anyway. But I wonder if back leg joint needs two, This time I took single tenon to see how long it holds. If single tenon is strong enough, twin tenons joint is perfect.
Position of stretcher is not too difficult to choose. Too high is not so supportive, too low is trouble when vacuuming. Somewhere between.
Hopefully it lasts a year.
