Chair making 2

Finally and reluctantly a chair-making project resumed.  This is not for sale but also not a drill. It's rather a test run to see the performance of myself and the shop. Now I'm alone in the shop and it's been cleaned and improved space efficiency. It's about the time.

Chair-making is really really sensitive, as well as designing. 1 degree is fatal difference. Probably the most comfortable chair I make is the mock-up.  Though I must master the manufacturing technique and procedure to sell items for reasonable price.

Btw, I've been thinking who wants to have my pieces. In other words, who's my actual customer?

Those who want to have just "function" of chair, like sitting (or whatever), they go to store like IKEA or second-hand store. They're focusing on the price and how easily and quick they can get the item. (Plus, how easily they can dispose it.) They are "price" or "easygoing" oriented. There's no way I can target them. A dining chair for $50? Nonsense.

What about design-conscious and/or material-conscious people? Possible. If JK was much more famous in my country, it'd be realistic. Those product need to possess certain background or story to have one or two more digit on the price tag. Finn Juhl didn't become the "Finn Juhl" over night. There's always exception like Brian, I know. (Although he took about 10 years to establish his name.) So unless I get a certain amount of saving in my bank, I won't target those "product/design" oriented people.

Then who am I targeting? I'll talk about it next time.
