wow, 2 weeks has already past since last update. I haven't done much but reached to one big milestone: shop modifying.
now the shop is for two, not big enough for mass-production yet there's no excuse for not making stuff because of the space. pressure's on.
There was one guy who popped in and out. He said he was from US and needed to make kitchen cabinet for his house. The shop was really full at that time but I had no complain because he taught me how to french-polish. It's very easy.
I wasn't just procrastinating, I made a prototype for stool. Since it's unrealistic to make/sell Krenov style cabinets commercially in Japan (no one has ever succeeded yet, I suppose.), I need to think something else. I'll do anything to launch woodworking business rather than just mourn. There are customers.

jeez, what a guy... wanting to use his own shop? the nerve.
did you start giving tours yet?
looks like your having fun.
are those extensions on the stool so that the sitter can be carried around while sitting?
just kidding, it's looking good. small production runs?
did brian sell work in japan? or mostly in the US?
Hey jacques, they're still preparing the tour, not sure we'll do it this year. Japanese Yen is too high to start it unfortunately.
His business is only in the US now, he hasn't sold many pieces in Japan so far.
The bars you're talking are cauls.
Excellent. Well Daisuke whatever you do don't lose heart. ... or integrity.
Patients takes on a longer scale in terms of a business compared to a project. I think I was naive to think that I could make a statement/mark here in two years. I haven't been back for two years yet but I don't see immediate changes. Though I suppose things happen when we least suspect them...
Anywho keep up the good work! Love seeing what you're up to. Don't be shy in showing us what else surrounds your world out there. I wish I could just come and visit!
Nick, I didn't mean to degrade the quality to sell cheap stuff. But I've been studying marketing more seriously and not to make costly cabinet is one option if it suits the strategy. For me it's about time to narrow down targets.
One bench is open now!
Yep, I didn't mean to say that integrity is exclusive to very costly things. Not at all. As long as you feel good about what you're doing or have no regrets.
Ha I can't even afford the plane ticket :/.
cheers to that !
Daisuke, you are totally speaking my language these days. Keep up the great posts, they always make me smile.
Tom, Lord, thanks!
